Hi Stephan, welcome! 😊
Can you tell us about the areas you're responsible for at empower?
"As Lead Engineer for the product 'Chart Creation,' I hold a key responsibility at empower. My main task is to develop and implement innovative solutions. I also mentor an apprentice and a working student. I obtained my trainer certification before joining empower, which allows me to actively support young talent. I really value the exchange of knowledge, where I learn as much from my apprentices and students as they do from me. Additionally, I work on various exciting projects, such as a translation platform, and stay in constant communication with the support team to ensure our products are tailored to meet our customers' needs. In this role, no two days are the same – from development to analysis, to concept and planning, I'm involved in all processes. I also assist the support team with questions related to customizations and other topics around empower® Chart Creation, and I support the implementation and adherence to security policies as a Security Specialist. Furthermore, I oversee our internal monthly academies, where I ensure we select presentation topics that inspire and advance our team."
How did you initially learn about empower?
"Back then, I was working for a financial services company while studying. My work was very project-oriented, with a lot of organizational tasks. I was looking for a job with a stronger technical focus. So, I searched online for software companies in Cologne that had good reviews. I applied to several companies, but I quickly realized that empower was the best fit for me. Since joining, I've never regretted my decision."
Has your work changed over time? If so, how?
"Definitely! I started as a Senior Engineer and was promoted to Lead Engineer in 2022. I really enjoy this position because I can take on a wide range of responsibilities. Many things evolve organically – through working on empower® Chart Creation customizations, new areas emerge where I act as a point of contact. I also frequently take on new cross-team projects, and I often say, 'I'll take care of that!' I love trying new things and constantly learning along the way."
What do you enjoy most about your work?
"What brings me the most joy are the people and the collaboration. But I also love diving deep into technical topics with music in my ears. I enjoy working together with colleagues to solve a problem as a team. Making our 'Chart Creation' team visible and continuously engaging with others is particularly fulfilling for me."
What makes empower a special employer for you?
"The open company culture. There are no rigid hierarchies here, which I really appreciate. We have a first-name basis culture, and there's a lot of openness to change things. Tasks aren't assigned based on who's the best at something, but on who is most passionate about it. The company places great importance on creating a good atmosphere, whether through team events or the flexibility in how you shape your work. The trust to take responsibility and execute tasks independently is what makes empower a special employer for me."
