15 years of empower

The idea for empower began when our founders, Stephan and Fabian, met during their first job as management consultants. In countless projects, they saw how much time was lost in Microsoft Office and how much more efficient clients became when simple automations were used. Back then, these were macros. Clients got working solutions instantly and loved them.

Stephan and Fabian continued to develop their idea while working full-time, pouring in passion while wondering if there was even a market for it. But the demand kept growing, and in 2009, empower was officially launched. Watch our full story in the video:

People Our Founders: Fabian Willebrand & Stephan Kuhnert

 

Two consultants with a shared vision: to make office work easier, more consistent, and on-brand.

Fabian Willebrand and Stephan Kuhnert met in 2004 at Accenture GmbH, where they advised clients from various industries on IT and strategy. Even then, they noticed how much time companies lost due to complicated document management and formatting.

Just a year later, they launched empower while still consulting. What started as a small project for custom Office solutions quickly grew into a leading standard software suite for Microsoft 365.

Both come from an IT background. Stephan studied business informatics at the Stuttgart Academy of Administration and Business and later earned an MBA from INSEAD Business School. Fabian studied computer science at the Berufsakademie Stuttgart. They share a passion for smart, intuitive business software and bring deep experience in software sales, agile product management, and leadership.

Their goal then and now: professional, on-brand documents—without the formatting hassle.

Today, empower serves more than 3 million users worldwide. Over half of all DAX companies use empower® daily—to work more productively and keep their brand visible in every document.
